Common Questions

Can the honorary consul apostille a document?

No — apostille is handled by the New Hampshire Secretary of State (for NH documents) or the Secretary of State of the issuing state. The honorary consul can authenticate after apostille if the document is destined for Hungary.

Can I get a Hungarian passport here?

No. Hungarian passport issuance and renewal requires biometric equipment available only at the Consulate General in New York. Sylvia can provide guidance on the process and required documents.

Can I apply for Hungarian citizenship here?

Citizenship applications are accepted by the Embassy of Hungary in Washington DC. The honorary consul can authenticate supporting documents and provide procedural guidance.

Is there a language requirement?

No. Sylvia is fully bilingual in English and Hungarian. Bring documents in either language — no translator required.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. All visits are by appointment only, Monday afternoons. Walk-ins are not accepted. Book through the online system.
